Changes to their environment or homeWhether you're moving house, moving furniture around or doing a spot of decorating, our cats can be sensitive to changes in their home environment. This can also include having new visitors in the home too. For example, friends coming over to visit, or even the introduction of a new baby (furry, or otherwise)!
Being given too much attentionSome cats enjoy their alone time, they can become stressed if they're on the receiving end of too much attention. This can include being followed, excessively stroked or cuddled. All children should be closely monitored when spending time with cats to make sure they don't go OTT. It's great to get them into the habit at an early age of respecting your pet's boundaries.
FireworksAs we all know, this isn’t just an issue on Bonfire Night. They can go off all year round with various celebrations taking place, although the main firework season extends from October through to New Year. Cats can find the sound of fireworks distressing.
Threats to their territoryIs there a new puss on the prowl in your neighbourhood? Our cats can be very protective over their home turf and the presence of a new cat in their space can be unsettling. This may trigger a fight or flight response which is linked with heightened levels of anxiety.
Visits to the vetThe sights and smells of the vet's is enough to make any pet feel anxious. It could also have something to do with where the vet puts the thermometer...
