  • Where Do Fleas Come From?

Did you know that just 5 fleas on an untreated pet can lead to more than 1 million eggs infesting your home in only 4 weeks?* Gulp. But where do they come from?

Most fleas come into contact with your pet from the environment. From the garden, to the pub and the park, it can feel like nowhere is safe from the blighters.

Wildlife such as foxes, hedgehogs, squirrels and rabbits can be flea-carrying culprits, bringing them into your garden ready for your cat to pick up.

Anyone who comes into your home (human and pet alike) can unknowingly carry fleas in with them.

Believe us when we say prevention really is better than cure. Adult fleas can lurk within your home for up to 5 months before hatching. So even if you think you have previously dealt with an infestation, it could still come back unexpectedly.

Break the cycle with Itch - the UK's tailored flea and worm treatments for cats & dogs on subscription. Our vet-approved, scientifically proven products including our home flea treatment, Itch Flea House Spray, are here to help you say goodbye to the microscopic mingers, for good.

*Based on an untreated pet having 5 fleas not being groomed off, each laying 50 eggs per day, developing into new fleas in 14 days and new fleas jumping on and laying more eggs.

  • How To Use Itch Flea House Spray From Homes

Here’s an easy, step-by-step guide on how to use Itch Flea House Spray:

    1. First of all, make sure that all doors and windows are closed. There shouldn’t be any pets around when you treat the room. And we’re not just talking dogs and cats - this also applies to birds, reptiles, insects, spiders and aquariums, where possible).

    2. Wash all your pet’s bedding on a hot cycle (60 degrees will be enough to kill fleas).

    3. Make sure you test Itch Flea House Spray on a hidden bit of fabric before spraying upholstered furniture.

    4. Shake the can well, remove the lid and hold the container upside down, pointing directly at the surface to be treated, at a distance of about 30cm.

    5. Spray directly on carpets, flooring and skirting boards and underneath any rugs or blankets, paying particular attention to any cracks and crevices (those fleas get EVERYWHERE). Avoid wetting furniture and carpeting and don’t over-apply to polished wood surfaces. A four-second burst in a criss-cross pattern will treat approximately one square metre, uniformly.

    6. Once you’ve sprayed, leave the room and give it half an hour before ventilating the area by opening the windows and doors for at least an hour.

  • How Many Cans Of Itch Flea House Spray Will I Need?

    1 can treats a 1-2 bed home
    2 cans treat a 3+ bed home

  • Safety Considerations

    Dogs and cats
Do not apply directly to pets, only use in your home. Before spraying, exclude dogs and cats from the room and only allow them to return after 4 hours. Once dry, Itch Flea House Spray will bind to all sprayed surfaces in such a way that it won’t come off onto the skin, making it safe for dogs and cats coming into contact with that surface. Our household flea spray does contain Permethrin, which can cause severe adverse reactions in cats.

    Aquatic life
The active ingredients in Itch Flea House Spray can be harmful to aquatic organisms - e.g. fish in aquariums. Tanks must be either removed from the room during spraying or covered with cling film, with aerators turned off for 4 hours to reduce the risk of toxicity.

    Pregnancy
Itch Flea House Spray is safe to use during pregnancy, although we advise taking sensible precautions such as avoiding inhaling fumes and washing hands after use.

    Babies and young children
Leave your baby/young child outside of the room being treated and don’t let them back in until the room has been well ventilated. Once dry, Itch Flea House Spray binds to all sprayed surfaces in such a way that it won’t come off onto the skin, making it safe for anyone coming into contact with that surface, including babies and young children.

    Asthma
Itch Flea House Spray itself represents no particular danger but the propellant is carbon dioxide, and increased levels of this gas can be associated with asthma attacks. If you have any concerns, have a chat with your doctor and preferably get someone else to spray for you. Make sure rooms are well-ventilated before returning.

vet approved!

For severe infestations, I recommend using Itch Flea House Spray alongside your first Itch Flea treatment. One dosage of flea treatment is not enough to kill all of the fleas that may already be living in your home. Household sprays work by killing all adult fleas in your home when and where you spray rather than waiting for each flea to come into contact with the product on your pet’s skin, which is why they work so quickly.
